We are determined to ensure that our investments in local communities – through donations, fundraising and employee volunteering – achieve the greatest impact. By working in partnership with charities, community groups and other companies, we multiply the value of our CSR activities and create a lasting legacy.
We partner with JA Europe, the largest non-profit in Europe dedicated to preparing young people for employment and entrepreneurship, in six countries across EMEA. In 2019/20, more than 600 students benefitted directly from our partnership.
Working with JA Europe, we mentor and coach young people as they prepare for the world of work. Since 2013, 577 MUFG volunteers have supported 6,204 students.
In the 2018/19 school year, the JA network in Europe reached more than four million young people across 40 countries with the support of 140,000 mentors from various businesses.
We support community and education programmes run by BIG Alliance to drive positive social change in the London Borough of Islington. As our CSR insights 2019/20 show, colleagues donated 1,935 hours to the charity last year.
MUFG volunteers have helped to create community and school gardens as part of BIG Alliance team challenges. In addition, employee mentors have taught CV writing, public speaking and other skills to local students through the charity's flagship education programme, Mentoring Works.
By working with BIG Alliance, we can be far more effective in the community than we could be on our own – 2019/20 saw 2,304 people benefit directly from our partnership.
We partner with JINC, a Netherlands-based charity that helps 8 to 16-year-olds get to know different professions and discover their own talents. As our CSR insights 2019/20 reveal, one of our employees was recently named JINC's Volunteer of the Year.
JINC's mission, to fight for a society in which your background does not determine your future, fits with our CSR objectives. As part of the charity's Career Coach and Job Application Training programmes, our employee volunteers share their professional knowledge and skills with local students.
Every year, JINC gives more than 65,000 children and young people the opportunity to grow.
MUFG is a global partner of Laureus, which uses the inspirational power of sport to transform young people's lives. Our support helped Laureus to reach over 340,000 young people around the world in 2019/20, including 135,405 in the EMEA region.
Last year, colleagues took part in an EMEA-wide fundraising initiative called Fitprints for Good and our inaugural One MUFG triathlon in support of Laureus Sport for Good.
Laureus believes sport is a powerful tool to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage. It supports more than 160 programmes in 40 countries.
